Referencing a screenshot from a film

Hi,

could you please confirm how to reference (in-text) a screenshot from a film?

Do I reference as 'image' or as 'film'??

Thank you,

Hi Nevena,

It may seem silly, but the format of the reference depends on where you got it from. If you got the screenshot from a website, then reference it that way. If you screencaptured an image form a movie on your computer, reference it as a movie.

Hope this helps, let me know if not by replying to this ticket

Thanks,

David

Hi Nevena,

For the figures I would place a notation under the image saying

Figure 1: Collage (images from author; Groundhog Day 1993; Independence Day 1996)

(you don't need to give it a title if you don't want to)

That kind of method would work for both collages I think.

Hope this helps,

David

Hi David,

thank you.

How would you reference this in the reference list?

Do I then list all three films and the author of the images, all under one figure in my list of figures?

Like you show on the webiste:

Muriel’s wedding 1994, motion picture, Roadshow Entertainment, Sydney; 2nd film, 3rd film, author of the original images?

This is the part that I find confusing, thank you for your help!!

Regards,

Hi David,

I have another question - how do I reference a figure - collage that I have made, and it contains screen shots from three films and my images (comparison between the images).

And another collage is just three images from the same film?

Could you please confirm how to reference this both under the figure and in the reference list?

Thank you,

Hi David,

yes, I got it from the movie directly (DVD that I played on my computer).

Thank you!
