NOTE: This is a workshop open only to higher degree research students and is organised through the Graduate Research School (GRS).

This workshop is aimed at beginning higher degree by research students. The workshop will begin by discussing the development of research questions that can be quantified and tested. The difference between experimental and observational research will be discussed. Inferential statistics and hypothesis testing will be reviewed. The impact of data type and data distribution on choice of quantitative methodology/hypothesis tests will be emphasized, as will the roles of replication, blocking and randomization in experimental design. Power analysis will be introduced and its role in estimation of sample size will be discussed. Completely randomised designs block designs, factorial designs and repeated measures designs will be considered.
