Join us at UTS Library on Thursday 31 May at 5.30PM  for the free film screening of Servant or Slave an emotional and confronting insight into the history and legacy of the domestic servitude enforced upon Aboriginal girls in Australia, followed by yarning circle discussion with UTS Elder in Residence Aunty Joan Tranter.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2018 is "Don't Keep History a Mystery". Reconciliation Week Australia acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Film Synopsis: In Australia, during the era of the Stolen Generations, thousands of Aboriginal girls were taken from their families and pressed into domestic servitude by the Australian Government. "Servant or Slave" is a film of courage, strength and the fortitude to pursue justice for the crimes committed against them after being stolen from their families, trained to be domestic servants and forced into indentured labour. Theirs is a David and Goliath battle, not only for personal retribution, but also for the next generation of Aboriginal people to come.

Presented by the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion and UTS Library. All UTS students and staff welcome. Light refreshments will be served. Level 4 Room 4.k.

Please RSVP here via Eventbrite.
