Image Databases

Use the Find Databases tool > Images to locate a list of open and subscription images resources. IN particular we recommend the following for your subject:

Trove: PictureAustralia gives access to over 1.7 million digitise photographs, artworks and artefacts that illustrate Australia. You can access it using the Trove catalogue.

ArtStor image database specialising in art and design.

Flickr: the Commons for more museum and gallery images and includes Australian content.

Ad*Access has images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955.

Referencing images

Referencing images can be a bit trickier than referencing books and journal articles. Make sure you have a look at our Referencing sound, film and image page to look at the guidelines. You can also come in and see a Librarian on the Research Help Desk if you have any questions.
