- Sage Journals Online
Sage is a really easy to use, focused and high quality collection for the humanities. All full text, all peer reviewed, and very modern content.
- Taylor and Francis Journals
Like Sage Journals, Taylor and Francis provides a high quality collection of articles about literature and writing, that isn't so large as to require very advanced searching or refining techniques. If you finding it hard to find what you need in these smaller databases, try the larger Proquest: the Arts and Academic Search Complete and related EBSCO databases seen below.
- Academic Search Complete (EBSCO)
A really versatile database that is strong on cultural studies topics. Returns 10,000 hits for the keyword search 'Culture AND writing'. Results are easily drilled into via the subject headings on the left of screen. Has a 'restrict to scholarly' search feature. This is an EBSCO database and can be searched alongside related EBSCO databases. Just click the 'change databases' link near the search box to add EBSCO databases to your original selection.
Academic Search Complete Tutorial
AustLit, the Australian Literature Gateway provides information on thousands of creative and critical Australian literature works. Indispensable if you are researching an Australian author.
JSTOR is good for its historical content, providing articles back to the early 1900's, where Sage and Taylor and Francis don't provide coverage. Contains journal titles like Sociological Forum, The French Review, Social Text and many more.
- Project MUSE
Project MUSE provides online access to over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals. All full text, and a nice complement to the above databases if you want to fully flesh out a search in cultural and writing subjects.
- American Film Scripts Online
The scripts of feature films chosen by criteria such as the film or screenplay winning a major award ; the film was critically acclaimed ; the
screenplay has historical or sociological significance ; it is part of the genres such as Film noir, Silent movies of the 1920's or a work by a key writer
like Paul Schrader.
