Evidence-based Practice & PICO searching

In this guide:

Evidence Based Practice is a research method integrating clinical expertise and current best evidence into the decision making process for patient care.

The Evidence Based Practice approach follows these steps:

  • Convert the need for information into a focused clinical question using the PICO format
  • Search for the best evidence
  • Critically appraise the evidence
  • Integrate evidence with clinical expertise and patient values (answering your question or making a decision about how to treat a patient)

The following YouTube playlist shows you how to conduct an Evidence Based Practice search, including formulating a PICO question from a clinical scenario and searching in Health databases.
