UTS Library's Artist-in-Residence presents The Book of Days

The Book of Days

Book Launch: The Book of Days

5.30pm, Wednesday 9 September
Events Space, Level 2, City Campus Library
All are welcome to attend

Zoë Sadokierski, UTS Library's 2015 Artist-in-Residence, launches The Book of Days, an illustrated anthology she edited, designed and produced at the Sydney Writers' Festival. Zoë will give a talk about the design and production processes involved, and there will be short readings from contributing authors.

The book was designed live during the festival at a workstation next to the Pier 2/3 Main Stage at Walsh Bay. This is the first publication created alongside the festival and, remarkably, the entire book was created from scratch in three weeks. Zoë gathered responses from passers-by and a rotating cast of invited illustrators stopped by to contribute. After the festival, the book was finalised and published using a print-on-demand platform and immediately made available to purchase online.

Spreads from the book are available for viewing on Zoë's website

As Artist-in-Residence, Zoë has been able to explore and research the evolution of books in the digital age. Earlier in the year, UTS Library hosted The book is..., an exhibition that explored print-on-demand publishing and the nature of 'books' in a time where they can be accessed on telephones via clouds, talk to us (in a voice of our choice), show us videos and demand that we interact with them.

The Book of Days is part of Sydney Design 2015
