Hong Kong is a fast-paced and exciting mix of traditional and international culture and a focal point for design in East Asia. In 2015, students from the UTS School of Design travelled to Hong Kong to work on a two week, practice-based design research project. Working in small interdisciplinary groups, the students explored and documented dilapidated highrise migrant communities, sleepy fishing islands, hidden alleyways and bustling street markets. Examining the unique material culture of these places, their work creatively reflects thoughtful insights into the social and cultural issues that define contemporary Hong Kong.
