Intersect Australia are running free data science workshops for UTS researchers and PhD students.

Spaces are still available for the following sessions:

  • Excel Fu: Excel for Researchers
    This intensive workshop runs over one day and comprises a series of hands-on exercises modelled around a mock research project.

  • Data visualisation with Google Fusion Tables
    Google Fusion Tables is an experimental data visualization web application to gather, visualize, and share larger data tables. In this tutorial we'll work through the various features of Fusion Tables, including importing, sorting and merging data and creating heat maps, by working on a fictional but plausible social science research project.

  • Cleaning & Exploring your data with Open Refine
    This three hour workshop introduces Open Refine which is a powerful tool for cleaning, normalisation and exploration of datasets. In this tutorial we'll work through the various features of Refine, including importing data, faceting, clustering, and calling into remote APIs, by working on a fictional but plausible humanities research project.
