UTS Library proudly presents Textile Global Studio: China, an exhibition of textile works produced by UTS Fashion and Textiles students in collaboration with Yantai Nanshan University, Longkou.
20 March - 10 April
Level 2, UTS Library foyer
The Library’s exhibition program regularly showcases work from Global Studio students, which encompass design and architecture disciplines. These immersive Global Studio programs give UTS students the opportunity to participate in cross-cultural learning exchanges with teachers, students and industries around the world.
This Global Studio involved students travelling to Hong Kong and mainland China (Shandong Province) over a two week program. Students were given the chance to explore local cultural textile applications as well as textile production in urban Hong Kong. Presentations from industry professionals introduced participants to global textile practices and provided context for Hong Kong Fashion Week sessions the students attended through Savannah College of Art and Design.
Throughout the program, the UTS students undertook a rigorous process of observation and reflection, which would inform their final designs. This knowledge was then brought into collaborative textile-making labs along with students at the Yantai Nanshan University. Here, their theorised designs were realised through experimentation with Jacquard and Dobby weave techniques.
This event is part of a series of curated exhibitions each year showcasing work and research produced by UTS students and staff. As a meeting point where the entire University community connects, the Library’s exhibitions create opportunities for cross-disciplinary encounters where knowledge, ideas and research can be communicated between different disciplines and faculties.
The official exhibition launch was held on Monday, April 3rd.
