UTS Library will be hosting Timo Rissanen as the 2017 Artist-in-Residence. Timo Rissanen is an educator, artist and designer whose work centres on fashion, sustainability and communication. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate study with UTS, graduating with a PhD from the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building (DAB) in 2013. He joins us from Parsons School of Design at The New School, New York where he is the Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Sustainability.
Timo will focus on two projects incorporating stitch and visual poetry. The first project will intertwine research and making through stitching and interviews with Library users in a process that will consider how we share information. The second project will investigate shifting ideas of nature within urban environments through the lens of Sydney.

UTS Library began its Artist-in-Residence Program in 2012, when imaginings about the future library catalysed in the construction of the Library Retrieval System. The Library has since invited the creative talent of experts to assist us in inspiring playfulness, art and culture in all aspects of the Library's operations. Initiatives such as the Artist-in-Residence Program create a dialogue between our community and staff as we meet the challenges of being a world-leading university library.
