UPDATE: The Great Book Swap

Indigenouse Literacy Foundation

Thank you for your participation in the Great Book Swap!

Thank you to the UTS students and staff who donated books and supported the 2017 event. Over $1300 worth of funds were raised for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which helps correct inequality by assisting to remove barriers around the cost and accessibility of obtaining books, almost tripling the amount raised by UTS last year! Donations to the Great Book Swap, fund the Book Supply - providing important literacy resources for remote Indigenous communities across Australia.

Donation period: 31 July - 30 August

UTS Library, UTS ART and Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning are teaming up to host the Great Book Swap to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) vision to lift literacy levels and instill a lifelong love of reading in students in remote communities. During the book swaps, participants bring a favourite book and swap it in exchange for another for a gold coin donation.

Every year, the Great Book Swap raises funds and collects books for the ILF, who run initiatives providing equity for opportunity in remote communities across Australia addressing inequalities such as 25% of Indigenous students in very remote areas currently achieving minimum reading standards, compared to 90% of non-Indigenous students.

For the month of August, Australian schools, workplaces, book clubs and community organisations host Great Book Swaps providing members of their local communities the opportunity to support Indigenous Literacy. Since its inception, the program has delivered more that 200,000 books to over 250 remote communities and the 2016 Great Book Swap saw over $160,000 raised for ILF.
