How do I use Harvard (UTS) referencing style and the UTS Library connection file on a UTS computer?

All UTS computers in public areas should have both the Harvard (UTS) style and the AGLC (UTS) style available.

On other university machines, due to restrictions on downloading, it may not be possible to save new EndNote styles to the EndNote styles folder on UTS Windows-based computers. These restrictions can also mean that it may not be possible to modify and save the corrected UTS Library connection file to EndNote's Connection files folder on some older UTS computers. In such cases you should contact your local IT support for assistance.

As a last resort, use the following workarounds:

To use the Harvard (UTS) or AGLC (UTS) style:

  1. Save the Harvard (UTS) or AGLC (UTS) style to the My Documents folder.

  2. Then open EndNote and click on Edit, Preferences, Folder Locations.

  3. To the right of the Style Folder box, use the Select Folder button to change the folder to My Documents. On some UTS computers the box will have just U: in it.

  4. Click on OK. You will be told that the folder is outside EndNote, that's OK.

  5. Now in EndNote's styles window you will be able to select and use Harvard (UTS) or AGLC (UTS).

  6. Note that with AGLC style you also need to install modified reference types.

To use the UTS Library connection file:

  1. In EndNote click on Edit, Connection Files, Open Connection Manager.

  2. Scroll down and select the U of Technology Sydney connection file.

  3. Click on the Edit button and then select Connection Settings from the menu on the left.

  4. Change the Server Address to linus.lib.uts.edu.au

  5. Click on File, Save As... and save to the My Documents folder. You will be warned that this is outside EndNote, that's OK.

  6. Repeat steps 2-4 from the style instructions above but with the Connections Folder.

  7. You should now be able to connect to the Library Catalogue by clicking on Tools, Connect in EndNote.

WARNING: All the changes to EndNote preferences are usually lost when you log off an ITD computer, so you will probably need to change the folder locations in EndNote each time you log in and wish to use Harvard (UTS) style or the UTS Library connection file. The saved files in the My Documents folder are not deleted when you log off; however this folder is periodically emptied by ITD so you may need to save the style or connection file again at some point when this happens.
