In text referencing for different sources but with the same author

In text referencing for different sources but with the same author

Hi! For my essay I have a few sources that were created by the same author (eg Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet) but are on different things. The articles are different but the author and year are the same so my in text referencing for both looks like (Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017). Is there a way to differentiate in the text which reference is for which article? Or is it just what I'm saying and then the marker can go down and look at the title of the article?

I hope that makes some sense. Thank you.

Hi Aime.

When you have two different references that have the same author and are published in the same year you tell them apart using letters. For example if you have two references that look like this in the text (Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017) - and then the titles of those two references are something like Malcolm Turnbull and Tony Abbott

Then you would call the Malcolm Turnbull reference (Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017a) - because M comes before T in the alphabet

And you would call the Tony Abbott reference (Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017b) - bceause T comes after M in the alphabet.

In your reference list you'd include the letter too:

Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017a, Malcolm Turnbull, ...etc

Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet 2017b, Tony Abbott, ... etc

I hope this helps!

David
