Many (but not all) journal publishers do allow submitted articles to contain material that has already been published in an online thesis within a university repository. You can check journal policies via the SHERPA/RoMEO site. If you are not sure, you should seek advice about this from the Library's Digitisation Coordinator

If you wish to publish a book based on your thesis, some book publishers may not allow the thesis to be available online for some years after the book has been published. This should be checked with the potential publisher in the first instance.

You will need to apply to the Dean of the Graduate Research School if you wish to impose restrictions on access to your online thesis for this or other purposes.
