I moved my EndNote library around and now none of my attached files will open; and none of my groups are listed any more.

When I try to open an attachment I get an error message "The URL (...) could not be launched". What has happened?

Attached files are always stored in a folder with the same name as the EndNote library, but with .Data on the end of the folder name. This folder was created when you created your EndNote library, and also contains your Groups information.

When you moved your EndNote library you should have moved this folder with it. You need to find this folder - it should still be where your EndNote library originally was before you moved things around. Cut (or copy) and paste the .Data folder into the location where your EndNote library currently is. Make sure that the EndNote library and the folder have identical names, except of course the library will end in .enl and the folder in .Data

Once you do this you should be able to open the attachments again; and your Groups should be restored.

If you want to move an EndNote library around, one way is: in EndNote click on File, Save a Copy and then save the copy in your new location (possibly with a name change, if you wish). This copies both the library and its associated .Data folder into the new location. You can then delete the old library and .Data folder if you wish.
