Recalls

When you borrow an item you are given a loans slip with a due date. The due date is not guaranteed, because in order to share access to our resources, the Library reserves the right to recall items if they are needed by other borrowers. This may result in the due date being reduced.

All users are guaranteed a minimum 2 week loan period for general collection items.

Recalls are sent out the day after a hold is placed so you may find you receive a recall the day after you borrowed a book. However you should always have 7 days before you have to return it.

The recall information may reduce your original due date - where this is practicable. Otherwise the recall will remind you of the due date and alert you to the fact that it is needed by someone else.

A recall fine of $2 per day will be charged on a general collection item if it is returned after its recall due date - whether it is the new reduced due date or its original one. Short loan collections such as 7 Day loans will be $10 per day for overdue and recalled items.

If you return or try to renew your books on the day they are due or when they are overdue you may find that someone has very recently placed a hold on them and there has not been time for us to send out a recall. Consequently it is in your best interests to return or renew your books promptly.
