Referencing software

  • EndNote - is a software package that will assist you to collect, store, organise and use your references.

  • RefWorks - is a web based bibliographic software designed to store your references and create a bibliography in the Harvard (UTS) or APA 5th reference style.

Language Software

Instructions on using NJStar communicator:

  • NJ Star Communicator (pdf 546kb) software enables the use of Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters on the computer keyboards. It is installed on PCs in the UTS library.

General Software

  • Microsoft Office training - free self paced training courses provided by Microsoft includes Office 2007
  • Tutorials from the Indiana State University website including Microsoft Office software for Windows and Macintosh, Macromedia and Adobe software products and more.
  • There are a number of tutorials on basic software from Emory and Hale College, including Outlook, Word, Front Page, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel and Access.
  • Atomic Tutorials has a limited number of free tutorials demonstrating some Macintosh and Windows software products.
  • Learnthat.com has some tutorials on basic Windows and Microsoft Word.

Adaptive software/hardware

There is a range of adaptive software and hardware available in the Special needs rooms at the City and Kuring-gai campus libraries:

Kurzweil 3000
Kurzweil 3000 is an adaptive software solution designed for people with a print disability. It specifically targets the needs of low vision users as well as users with a learning disability such as dyslexia.
It is a combined scanning, optical character recognition, screen-reading and magnification product.

Voice recognition software
Some students may find it useful to input computer text or control applications by using voice commands instead of via the keyboard or mouse.

Dragon Naturally Speaking software is available at the Blake Library and Kuring-gai Campus Library.

Adaptive equipment
Adaptive equipment includes:

  • 2 computers with office and Internet access and an extra large VDU.
    Increased font size is a feature of these computers
  • Vantage closed-circuit television which allows printed material to be magnified
  • tape recorder with Braille markings.
  • A standard cassette player/recorder and internal phone are also available.

The Kuring-gai Campus Library Special needs room offers a limited range of equipment. The UTS Library will consider acquiring additional equipment needed by a student or staff member with a special need.
