This seminar presents a clear overview of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and what makes them distinctive. You will learn about some common research methods, and understand some issues in designing a research study. You'll also get a cheat sheet of learning resources including structured courses to help you with planning and conducting your research.



Dr Lien Pham, Lecturer, Graduate Research School. 

Dr Lien Pham has been working with HDR students since 2014 in research methodology, qualitative data analysis and academic writing in the social sciences and humanities. She has presented seminars and workshops on qualitative research methodology for universities in Vietnam and Malaysia. Lien has also consulted for various NSW government agencies in high profile policy-driven research and program evaluations, and multilateral organisations including UNESCO Bangkok on educational policy reforms.

Associate Professor Tapan Rai, Director, Graduate Research School. 

A/Prof Rai has held academic and leadership positions in Australia, Canada, USA and India, and has been working in the researcher development space since 2009. In this capacity, he has advised over 200 HDR students and researchers on research methodology, and contributed to the development of university-wide and within-faculty researcher training programs.
