Image Databases

  • Birkhauser Building Types - A database of building information and high quality technical drawings.
  • Pidgeon Digital - Videos comprised of talks with accompanying slides by famous architects.
  • OnArchitecture - OnArchitecture is an online audiovisual service featuring original videos, such as interviews, buildings and installations, all of this enriched with a selection of complementary material - documents and audiovisuals - about the main authors and figures of contemporary architecture.
  • Academic Search Complete - Tick the 'image quick view' box before searching to return only matches that contain diagrams or illustrations
  • Art and Architecture in Video - This is a video databases containing biographies, profiles of contemporary artists and architects, interviews, surveys of art history, aesthetics, theory, criticism, and more, spanning from Greek and Roman forms to the modern.
  • Proquest - Is the best superdatabase for design, and has an image restriction feature available from advanced search under 'figures and tables'. It has a 'save to presentation' option also. 
  • ScienceDirect - Has an image search available from the advanced search mode. It even has video that has been embedded into journal articles that you can refine by.
  • ArtStor - doesn't have a huge collection of architectural images, but the ones they have are usually quite good.
  • Hollis image collection at Harvard University contains 100,000 pictures of buildings, and roughly 2000 architectural plans, mostly of historic and ancient buildings.
  • Ludwig Mies van der Rohe collection @ MOMA
