Searching for river management sydney helped me find an online resources called Dams of Sydney

This might be useful for comparing suburb sized chunks of Sydney over time, via aerial photography, to see if rivers & creeks have disappeared. Search for a suburb and then use the 'basemaps' option in the top right to choose the background layer to be the 1943 aerial footage, and then use the drag bar to compare then and now.
