26100 Integrating Business Perspectives (IBP): Referencing

In this guide:

Referencing is used in academic writing for a number of reasons:

  • To support claims, arguments and assertions in your work
  • To show evidence of reading and research
  • To give credit to the authors of any material that you have referred to in your work
  • To help readers find the sources of information you have cited
  • To ensure academic integrity and avoid accusations of plagiarism.

From 2020, the UTS Business School is using a new referencing style, APA 7th edition. The Library has a lot of support for APA referencing on our website, including an Interactive APA Guide.

To see some examples of references have a look at this sample essay. The comments give hints about various aspects of essay writing, including referencing.

We have a YouTube playlist of videos about APA referencing which are also used in our HeadsUp tutorial on referencing.

Finally, if you have questions like "how do I reference a report, or a tweet, or a YouTube video, or something a lecturer says in class?" have a look at our APA Referencing Guide.
