UTS Library

Official opening of The Book Spotter's Guide to ‘Avian Titled Literature' - Friday 24 August

Single Bird Book

UTS Library in collaboration with designer academics Dr Kate Sweetapple and Dr Zoe Sadokierski from UTS School of Design warmly invites you to the official opening of the remarkable art installation - The Book Spotter's Guide to ‘Avian Titled Literature' on Friday 24th August 2012.

Art installation is an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space.

The Book Spotter’s Guide to ‘Avian Titled Literature’ is part of ‘Unlikely Avian taxonomies’ project. It’s an ongoing collaboration through which Dr. Kate Sweetapple and Dr. Zoe Sadokierski, re-categorised birds based on patterns in their names, then visualise these re-categorisations (or taxonomies) as posters, sculptures and books.

A total of 30 books have been folded into 'birds' and suspended as a flock in the central stairwell of the UTS Library. Each book-bird represents a novel with a bird in the title: To Kill a Mockingbird; One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; etc.
