Curations Exhibit: Textiles

Textiles Global Print

On display from 7 April to 15 May 2015
Level 4, City Campus Library

An exhibition of student works from the 2014 Global Textiles Studio focusing on the traditional craft of woodblock printing and Indigo dyeing.

Eleven Fashion & Textiles students travelled to regional Indian villages including Jaipur, Bagru and Pushkar, to explore a range of traditional textile print and dye techniques, alongside skilled artisan’s and craftspeople.

The studio enabled students to immerse themselves in a rich cultural Indian design heritage dating back 5000 years, with the aim to encourage collaboration, acquisition of craft knowledge and intercultural exchange.

The workshop based in Pushkar was facilitated by Australian Designer Fiona Wright whose studio provides work and income for women in the village and is widely recognised for sustainable practice.

UTS Fashion and Textiles tours are made possible through collaboration with Julie Lantry, Director of Artisan Culture, Cecilia Heffer, Print Global Studio Coordinator, and the support of UTS Build.
