Global Studio: Kullu Himalaya Weave Exhibition

Textiles Exhibition

Monday, 26 April 2016 to  Friday, 10 June 2016
Level 2 - Library Foyer

The 2015 Global Studio was a collaboration and cross-cultural exchange with the Indian Weave Studio Kullu Karishma. Situated in the Himalayas, the studio lies beside a beautiful valley along the river Beas and is famous for a unique style of hand weaving blending Angora rabbit fur with Australian Merino wool.

Over an intense two and a half weeks, thirteen Fashion & Textile students were based at the studio working closely with experienced artisans. They visited their ethical Angora rabbit farm, watched the shearing and immersed themselves in local culture, learning traditional techniques of hand looming, knitting, felting and sustainable natural dying.

UTS Fashion and Textiles tours are made possible through collaboration with Julie Lantry (Director of Artisan Culture), Cecilia Heffer (India Global Studio Coordinator) and the support of UTS Build.
