Food For Fines 2017!

Food For Fines

Thank you to the 298 UTS students and patrons who generously donated over 1770 items of food to Mission Australia in 2017!

77 boxes of much needed food were collected during the campaign.  The Mission Australia van visited Haymarket twice on 28th November. Early in the morning to deliver much needed food for homeless people sleeping on the city streets and again to UTS Library to gladly collect the stack of boxes that will feed people in need. Missionbeat will sort the food items, and ready-to-eat products such as muesli bars, tins with pull rings, juice packs and snack food to be given out to the rough sleepers of Sydney.

$4848 worth of Library fines were waived at UTS Library during the campaign! Food for Fines is now in its 9th year at UTS Library. This year, Food for Fines ran from Monday, 9 October to Sunday, 26 November.

The Food for Fines Campaign is a way for Library clients to contribute to a worthy cause and lower their fines at the same time. Staff and students will be able to donate non-perishable items, including canned food, jars and packeted food, but no confectionery. Items must not be damaged and the expiry date must not be before June 2018.

For each item donated $3 was deducted and up to a maximum of $30 can be claimed off your fines. The Library encourages clients without fines to also donate, as it all goes to a worthy cause. The donations will be given to Mission Australia. They are a local charity helping people who are homeless, unemployed or living in poverty.
