Extensive negotiations led by the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL) with publisher Elsevier (hosts of ScienceDirect) have not resulted in an agreement for 2026.
During these negotiations the parties were unable to reach agreement on key commercial terms, including pricing, agreement structure, and the inclusion of gold open access publishing.
Without a new agreement in place, UTS would not have access to paywalled journals or the ability to publish open access with Elsevier without paying an article processing charge (APC). UTS is considering potential impacts, contingencies, and next steps for 2026. More information will be provided here as it becomes available.
