Notices relating to ordering materials
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, delays are expected on InterLibrary Loan requests, purchase requests, and subscriptions.
Visit COVID-19 Updates and Support for full details.
The Library provides various options for ordering materials when they are not available in the current collection. When ordering materials, the Library will preference digital delivery as a more immediate and equitable form of access.
InterLibrary Loans and purchasing
UTS staff, postgraduate and honours students may request an InterLibrary Loan (ILL) for any material, including books, book chapters, articles and conference papers – these will be sourced from other Libraries or purchased for the collection.
Supply of ILL may take over 3 weeks depending on availability, location, and COVID-restrictions. The Library may choose to purchase an item for the collection rather than supply it from another Library.
Conditions of InterLibrary Loan
- Late returned, damaged, and lost items may incur fines and replacement fees.
- ILL items are subject to recall.
- Loan periods and renewals are specified by the lending library and ILL borrowing times may vary.
If you have questions or need further information about ILL, contact the Library .
Submitting an item request
Journal articles and book chapters not held can be requested via the Article/Book Chapter Request Form.
Print items that are unavailable for purchase, are rare, or are out of print may be available on InterLibrary Loan (ILL), via the Book Request Form.
On delivery, the item will be held in Reserve, located near the Library service desk on level 7, requesters will be directly notified when item(s) are available for collection.
Your InterLibrary Loan status and renewals
InterLibrary Loans (ILL) do not automatically renew and renewals are not guaranteed.
Contact the Library with any questions about your ILL status or to renew an ILL item.
Students living outside the greater Sydney area may request photocopies of book chapters or journal articles held only as a physical item in the UTS Collection (subject to copyright limitations). If the item is not in the UTS Catalogue, Postgraduate and Research students should use Interlibrary Loan. Journal articles and book chapters can be requested via the Remote Student Document Delivery form.
Reading List items
Request for subject materials can be made directly from Reading Lists using tags. The Library operates under an e-preferred model - see the Collections development and management guidelines for details.
For resource purchase requests that are not subject readings, staff and researchers can make recommendations for new purchases to be added to the collection. The status of Purchase Requests can be checked in MyLibrary.
New journal/package subscriptions
Given the limited capacity to commit to new subscriptions, any requests for subscriptions are reviewed within the context of the current collection as well as the subject/discipline area covered.
To request an ongoing subscription, contact the Library.
