C.U.L.T (Cutting Using Library Things)

UTS Library

Event description

Before things can be reborn, they must first be taken apart.

Join us for the sacred first step in the C.U.L.T experience — Cutting. Led by Deborah Kelly, UTS Library’s 2025 Creative in Residence, this workshop invites you to carefully (or enthusiastically) dismantle discarded library books in preparation for their next life as collage.

This is not just cutting — this is the ritual of transformation. The calm before the glue. The quiet undoing that makes room for reinvention.

What is C.U.L.T?

A ritual of scissors and spirit. A communion with the forgotten. A gentle undoing. A creative revival.

What to expect

  • Guided cutting rituals with Deborah
  • Strange and beautiful discarded books
  • Sorting fragments by vibe, texture, or tenderness
  • Calm conversation and a shared sense of purpose
  • All materials provided

Bring your hands, your heart, and a spirit of playful reverence.
This is where your C.U.L.T experience begins.

Initiation Required

Ready to collage? You'll need to begin with Cutting. This is Part 1 of the C.U.L.T. experience, and only those who’ve cut with care may move on to collage with intention.

You’re welcome (encouraged, even!) to book both now — just make sure you start with this workshop before attending the next.
